About Kx2.us, the history of how it began

I had always planned on someday running my own web site.

A friend of mine had given me some space on his web server to mess around on. That was a good way to start doing more web stuff, along with doing a little more of this too at work and school.

So I am on spring break of the last semester in my senior year of a B.S. in computer science. . . .actually the end of the spring break week, and:

  1. I had just recently gotten a new Dell computer. . .
  2. Had just recently subscribed to DSL. . .
  3. Have had some experience with Apache web server and Tomcat servlet engine last year for one of my classes. . .

These were all the ingredients to be able to build a web site, so why not start messing with that, huh? I mean, just begin to explore doing that, right?

Well, 3 days later of nearly continuous work of nothing but reading, installing, configuring, testing, tweaking, reading more, getting stuck, searching the net, finding some help and putting that help into practice, I got it all to work (Apache v2 had just recently been released so there was very little documentation available).

So, this site was up and serving to the internet on March 9th, 2003

Then over the next couple days I got Apache's Tomcat software to work and be able to execute servlets and also got Borland's Interbase database installed and working.

So, the last thing then was to get my application I had built last year during one of my classes, to work. This project was a web interface to a database with the model system being a Student Registration System (SRS). This required all the components I installed above, to work. Find more info about this in the Web Apps section.

I plan to use this site to learn more about web technologies, to gain experience in and potentially offer web site design and/or hosting services, and as a means of providing myself with a highly accessible source of information.

. . .oh, and. . . . .it's kind of fun too.
